I been crossing cables, I been counting sheep I been south of Patterson, in the Land of Sleep Came across an old man playing Cripple Creek Came across a younger man with weights on his feet I won't say I mind To just take my time In the Land of Sleep Went on down to old town, nothing else to do Found a ghost of yesterday, found nothin new There's a younger version of me waiting to Catch a ticket out of here, and catch a drink or two I won't say I mind To just take my time In the Land of Sleep

Close enough to be afraid Far enough away to be safe Couldn't help noticing I think I remember this place So it's circles we're going in Boxes of pine we escape Nice enough knowing you Even though I can't see your face In the dark dark woods There in the dark dark stood Nothing but dark dark coulds Nothing but dark dark shoulds Here on the dark dark road Slowly the dark dark grows And only the dark dark knows Which way the dark goes It's circles we're going in Boxes of pine we escape Nice enough knowing you Even though I can't see your face

See the Sun 04:27
It don't take the tip of my tongue to speak easy It don't take a twist of my arm to concede It might take another ten years to convince me I know what it feels like to feel like me I can see the sun rising up through the gallows Through the light in your eyes, your eyes I can see the sun rising up through the shadow ridden side of my life And it's time It's too late to come up with a sweet beginning And to make another with sticks and stones But these days I'm breaking my state of pretending It ain't worse than dying to feel alone I can see the sun rising up through the gallows Through the light in your eyes, your eyes I can see the sun rising up through the shadow ridden side of my life And it's time

There's a whisper in the western room Where it comes from, I don't know Got a fever from the fullest moon In the phosphorescent glow When the evening comes, the curtains close There's a creature in the night Settle in until the rooster crows I'm sleeping til' the light As I plunge to the unknown, I don't fear the ghost What's the use in wasting energy What'll be is going to be Won't fight if it don't bother anything Maybe someday that'd be me
5.
All we are is afraid of all we aren't We imagine ourselves in a place Where all we are Is a slave, is a beggar And we want something better Just a taste of the other side Always we are curious, distracted, and starved Go to work in our cells, Oblivious to the world in ourselves We are tied, we are tethered And we want something better Just a taste of the other side We are worn, we are weathered And we want something better Just a taste of the other side See you on the other side

about

Land of Sleep is the first solo EP release from Richie Worrell. These songs are the culmination of months of writing, tweaking, playing, and dreaming.

Inspired by three things - hazy days in his hometown in rural Virginia, the music of the film 'Sling Blade', and a summer spent working as a groundskeeper on a riverfront campground - Richie has crafted these songs to have a sound of reminiscence and familiarity.

Land of Sleep is Tom Petty meets Radiohead's 'OK Computer'; Daniel Lanois meets Pink Floyd; Bruce Springsteen meets The War on Drugs.

Just close your eyes and imagine it's a warm summer evening.
